Expatriate Office Manager
Visa and Immigration Office, Australian Embassy Rangoon

The Visa and Immigration Office of the Australian Embassy Rangoon has a current vacancy for an expatriate Office Manager. The position will be filled on a term contract basis. The holder of the position will work closely with senior Embassy staff and the Chief Migration Officer (Bangkok) to manage the Visa Office, including by assessing and deciding visa applications and delivering the programs and services of the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

Applicants must be expatriate citizens of Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Canada or the United States who are entitled to work as a locally engaged staff member at a diplomatic mission in Burma.

The successful applicant will have good interpersonal and liaison skills and have the ability to conduct business with clients from varied backgrounds. The applicant will have well-developed organisational skills, strong written and oral communication skills, experience working in an office environment, sound information technology skills and the capacity to quickly become proficient in DIAC systems. The applicant will also have initiative, be able to focus on priorities, meet deadlines and work well in a team situation with limited supervision.

The salary offered is USD12.00 per hour plus limited other benefits as provided for in the Rangoon Embassy Conditions of Service. The successful applicant will be responsible for arranging their own working visa for Burma and for all transfer and ongoing costs associated with living and working in Burma. Before lodging an application prospective applicants are advised to check their eligibility for a visa and work permit and investigate living conditions and costs. The position is full-time but part-time work would be considered subject to operational requirements.

DUTY STATEMENT

Expatriate Office Manager
Visa and Immigration Office, Australian Embassy Rangoon

The Office Manager will work closely with senior Embassy staff in Rangoon and Bangkok by managing the Visa and Immigration Office in a way that best achieves the goals and objectives of the Embassy and the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s (DIAC). Specific duties may include:

• Day to day management of the Visa Office in the Australian Embassy Rangoon, including management of staff, workload and resources.

• Manage, assess and decide applications for Australian visas and citizenship, effectively applying and interpreting legislation, policies and procedures in accordance with lawful decision making and natural justice principles.

• With appropriate security clearance, navigate Embassy and other systems and provide reports for application processing and decision making.
• Conduct client interviews and respond to client requests and enquiries consistent with DIAC’s Client Service Charter, including by preparing complex correspondence and provide information to clients on visa options.
• Provide guidance, support and assistance to junior staff in application processing and decision making.
• Assist senior staff (in both Rangoon and Bangkok by appropriately escalating high profile and/or sensitive cases.
• Other duties as directed.
